A person has to go through a 2-year rigorous training program for becoming a teacher. If you want to be a teacher, you need to do some research and plan carefully for the course and college/university you are going to select. You must be very careful while selecting a college for pursuing your b.ed, as there are also many fake colleges, which may put a question mark on your degree despite so much effort.
Before deciding which college to enroll in, for pursuing your B.ed. First, let’s understand some basic details about this course. Then, we will move on to the best colleges in Chandigarh offering B.ed.
Bachelors in Education (B.ed) is one of the teacher training programs that prepare teachers for upper primary (classes VI-VIII), secondary level (classes IX-X), and senior secondary level (classes XI-XII). Therefore, if you have a Bachelor’s degree and complete your B.ed you will be eligible to teach class VI to X and if you have a Postgraduate degree along with B.ed then, you will be eligible to teach XI and XII (of course class VI to X as well).
The 2-year course is divided into 4 semesters. Each semester has both theoretical and practical courses.
B.ed is a professional degree that helps you build your career in the education or academic sector. It is also mandatory for a Master’s degree in education i.e. M.ed, which further helps you to take leading roles in educational institutions as Principals/Headmasters, Administrators, etc.
B.ed is more of a practical course and will not be that easy. It requires much more effort and creativity from your side. It is a course that will keep you engaged and will be full of learning.
Eligibility criteria for B.ed :
- As per NCTE – Candidates with at least fifty percent marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/ Humanity, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the program.
- In the case of the Integrated BA+B.ed or B.Sc+B.ed program, the eligibility criteria will be 50% marks in 10+2 from any board.
Duration of B.ed:
- After 2014, NCTE increased the duration of the B.ed program from 4 to 2 years.
- As of 2022, B.ed is a 2-year program.
- B.ed course is also offered as an integrated program for example BA+B.ed integrated (Integrated) B.sc+B.ed integrated. In this case, the course becomes 4 years of duration and at the end of it, you are awarded 2 degrees i.e. one of BA/B.sc + B.ed.
- NEP 2020 has also recommended offering a 1-year B.ed program for those who have completed a Master’s/Postgraduate degree.
Therefore in the upcoming years, after the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 multiple options would be provided for selecting the duration of the B.ed course.
Attendance in B.ed Program:
Most of the colleges strictly follow the rule of 80% attendance in theory courses and 90% in the School Internship course in the B.ed Program as mandated by NCTE.
Training/Internship program under B.ed
The 2 years B.ed course also requires you to go through a 16-week training program in a school, in the last year of the course, as mandated by NCTE. The internship is either provided by the college itself or the student has to search for it themselves.
