Just by running through this article, you can save a lot of your valuable time…

L.L.B. (Bachelor of Legislative Law or Legum Baccalaureus) is a degree course that gives you the License to practice as a lawyer in various Courts throughout India. It is basically a course to be done after Graduation. It is closely supervised and regulated by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Doing this course you are a licensed professional to legally defend yourself or any client in opinion of the Indian Judicial system and influence the legal proceedings.

The Students of LLB need to attend all the Theory classes, Moot Courts, internships and tutorials. These give the students an on field experience and makes them ready to practice as a Lawyer. The L.L.B. is offered in two formats: Integrated course and separate course. The Integrated course (also called 5 year LLB) demands an early selection, before enrolling into the first year of Graduation. For eg. B.A.L.L.B or B. Com. L.L.B. It is a five year course offered by most NLUs. The separate L.L.B. (also called 3 year LLB) course is of three years to be entered after the completion of 3 years of Graduation. Here you have the option to decide till you are a graduate but need to spend one year extra.

LLB admission procedure:

Admission process is different for different law schools. Most of the law schools in India offers admission through entrance exams. With the passing of years, law entrance exams are becoming popular and competitive. All the National Law Universities (NLUs) in India (except NLU, Delhi) admit students to their integrated undergraduate or postgraduate courses via Common Law Admission Test or CLAT. NLU, Delhi on the other hand conducts its own separate entrance test called All Indian Law Entrance Test (AILET). Some of the Universities also conduct their individual entrance tests eg. LLB Entrance Tests for Delhi University, BHU Law Entrance, etc. Admission into foreign countries, however is done through the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).

How to know which LLB college conforms to the standards?

Course Selection

Decision is in our hands when it comes to selecting the type of course. An integrated course sets you in the groove much earlier than the separate one. Apart from the one year that is saved, it also helps you focus on the field right from the start of the course. A separate course is usually the choice if you have already enrolled or completed Graduation, or if you want to keep other options open.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of a college is very important for professional development. A better, bigger and well maintained infrastructure is the optimum choice, and surprisingly many new colleges are coming up with this. Certain facilities like Moot Courts have been made compulsory by the Bar Council of India. This gives the future lawyers a demo of their on-field work and they develop more practically.

Faculty

Faculty is the main functional unit of any college. The Law colleges depend in great proportions upon the qualification and performance of their faculty. A well-qualified and capable law teacher only can aid in the upbringing of future lawyers and judges. The teacher needs to have a good fieldwork experience and a very good teaching knack also to cultivate good quality professional Lawyers.

Curriculum

Students study Laws related to both National and International issues. Because of this there are continuous updates in the curriculum and perhaps teaching approaches also. With respect to the current standards the curriculum needs to be constantly monitored and updated. Multiple institutes now offer a multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary or liberal arts teaching to provide better practical knowledge.

Legal Aid Centre

Legal Aid Centres or Cells are now mandatory as per the Bar Council of India (BCI). Certain voluntary or spontaneous activities undertaken by the legal Aid centre law students gain knowledge about the status of said universities and colleges. The objective of the establishment of this in law colleges is to create legal awareness and help to the surrounding underprivileged crowd, but students do gain a good experience if these are taken seriously by the respective colleges. Private universities are better equipped hence provide better.

Placement Record

Placements are really dependent on how far you study the subject. Law colleges have good tie ups with reputed Companies and can give quite a good percentage of placement benefits to its students. Law being an important component of any new establishment, has good prospects for placement. Bu, it is essential to seek information about the college’s collaborations and placement guarantee or placement percentage of the last few years. Ahmedabad has seen the rise of many new educational Institutes and professional colleges. It has been the home for novel educational launches since the last 4 to 5 decades.
