WHAT IS CLAT EXAM?
CLAT (Common-Law Admission Test) is an entrance exam used all over India. This examination is for students considering undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. The Consortium of Universities of National Law will administer the CLAT Examination.
In India, most private and self-financed law schools use these scores for admittance. CLAT Post Graduation (CLAT PG) scores are used by public sector firms in India such as ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, and others to select for legal posts. The exam is given after the 12th grade for admission to these law schools’ combined under-graduate law degree (BA LLB) programmes and after degree in law for Master of Laws (LL.M) programmes. It is regarded as one of India’s most difficult admission exams, with an acceptance rate of less than 1%.
Eligibility Criteria
- There is no age restriction for taking the CLAT exam.
- In the 10+2 or equivalent exam, candidates belonging to the General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI groups must achieve at least 45 percent marks or an equivalent grade.
- For candidates who fall into the SC/ST categories, the percentage is 40%.
- Candidates who will take the qualifying test in March/April 2021 will be eligible to take the CLAT 2022 exam.
- CLAT postgraduate test requires a student to have an LLB degree or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates from the SC/ST categories receive 45 percent of the total marks.
