WHAT IS CLAT EXAM?
CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a consolidated national scale entrance exam for enrolment to India’s twenty-two National Law Universities (NLUs). In India, many private as well as self-financed law schools use these scores for admittance. CLAT Post Graduation (CLAT PG) scores are used by public sector firms in India such as ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, Oil India, and others to recruit for legal jobs.
The exam is taken after the 12th grade for entrance to the law schools’ integrated under-graduate degree in law (BA LLB) programmes and after graduate completion in law for Master of Laws (LL.M) programmes.
CLAT Exam Eligibility
The test is only open to Indian citizens and non-resident Indians.
For Under Graduate Courses:
- Candidates must have passed senior secondary education (10+2) or an equal certification from a recognised board to sit for the CLAT under-graduate LAW entrance exam.
- A candidate should have at least 45% of aggregate marks and 40% for those of SC/ST category.
- There is no restriction on age limit. A candidate can be of any age.
For Post Graduate Courses
- An applicant must have earned an LLB/BL or other recognised equivalent degree from a recognised university.
- A candidate’s overall grade point average should be at least 50% and 45% for those belonging to SC/ST category.
- No restriction on the upper age limit.
