The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is a national level
JEE (Mains)
JEE (Mains) comprises paper 1 and paper 2. Paper 1 is for getting admission into B.E/ B.Tech courses and paper 2 for admission into B.Arch and B.Planning courses. Eligibility Criteria for JEE Mains
- The candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination. But because of the pandemic situation this 75% criteria was removed last year. Thus, students are advised to carefully go through eligibility criteria in the application form of the year in which they are appearing.
- Candidates after passing their 12th can appear in JEE Main in three consecutive years.
- There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Mains 2022 exam, Any student who has passed the 12th class exam in the years 2020, 2021, or appearing in 2022 can apply for the entrance exam.
- Students who are a citizen of India, PIO (Person of Indian Origin), OCIs (Overseas Citizen of India) and Foreign nationals are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. But in case of foreign nationals again certain eligibility conditions need to be met.
What combinations of subjects in class 12th do you need for appearing in JEE Mains?
- For Paper 1 (B.Tech) – qualifying 12th examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects.
- For Paper 2A (B.Arch) – Qualifying 12th examination with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry is compulsory.
- For Paper 2B (B.Planning) – Qualifying 12th examination with Mathematics as a subject is mandatory.

A candidate can appear for JEE Mains twice a year (i.e. in the month of January and April, for 3 consecutive years. That means in total you have 6 attempts.
In order to be eligible for JEE Advance one must secure rank within top 2,50,000.
