Run-outs involving MS Dhoni have always been a topic of discussion during any of the matches he plays. Blind run-outs involving MS Dhoni

As MS Dhoni, grew in his career, he started to being known for the unorthodox best blind run-outs he has done. Blind run-outs are run-outs he has done without looking at the stumps. He hits the stumps while either having his back towards it or being in the air. And even sometimes, by playing with the batsman’s mind leading to him get out. This kind of run-outs in t20 and ODI have always left people being awestruck.

Ross Taylor Run-out

India Vs New Zealand match in October of 2016 is when one of the best run-outs by Dhoni took place. It was a blind run-out in the when Dhoni received the ball from Kulkarni (fielder) and just within mini-seconds of Dhoni catching the ball, threw it off on the stumps. And the bails went off without even him looking at the stumps, and Ross Taylor got out.

This run-out by Dhoni made people realise how good and quick he is on the field.

Sunil Narine Run-out

This is one of the best run-outs in IPL by Dhoni. In a match played between Rising Pune Supergiants with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017, he did the magic again. With his quick response, he threw the ball on the stumps without even having a look at it. And this led to the batsman (Sunil Narine) being run-out.

Run-out in World T20 2016 by Dhoni

In a world T20 match the pressure has always been immense. But MS Dhoni is always known for his calmness inside the fields under pressure situations. His calmness and his mind played a major role in India winning the match with Bangladesh in the last over, the last ball. With only 2runs required of one ball. This is a nail-biting situation in a match.

Hardik Pandya bowls the last ball and the batsman tries to hit the ball hard, but it passes on to MS Dhoni. The batsman tries to take a run, but who could win in running with MSD. Dhoni runs at the speed of light, with the ball in his hands, and makes the bails fall off. What was so commendable in this instance was, he did not throw the ball directly and used his presence of mind. Maybe because if he directly threw the ball it could have missed the stumps and so he ran. And this led to India winning this match.

Twice dismissal in one ball: Run-outs involving MS Dhoni

This was an ODI match in March of 2009, India Vs New Zealand. Dhoni in the match performed with his bat as well as wicketkeeping skill. One of the best run-outs by Dhoni happened in this match. The batsman had tried to hit the ball out of the boundary but missed it. Instead, only the edge of his bat came in contact with the ball, and the ball was in the air.

Dhoni now catches the ball which is the first dismissal, and then when the batsman tries to look for the ball and goes out of the crease. Dhoni in no time again removes the bail, making him run-out again on the same ball.

De Grandhomme Run-out

In an IPL match 2018, Chennai Super Kings Vs Royal Challengers Banglore. Dhoni did a perfect and quick run out of De Grandhomme. Negi who was the batsman batting with Grandhomme hits the ball but it is caught by Dhoni. But the batsman makes a call for the run since Dhoni was standing at a further distance from the stumps. But who would have thought he would throw the ball directly, hitting the middle stumps. This was one of the best run-outs by Dhoni, not only in IPL but also in his entire career.

Washington Sundar Run-out

In the same match, the next ball was also a classic ball that leads to a run-out by Dhoni, who did not waste a single moment in hitting the stumps when he had the ball in his hand. Bravo has he bawled the ball, the batsman Negi hits it into the air and with one bounce it directly goes in the hands of the fielder. Negi and Sundar complete one run but Sundar runs for the second run. He is halfway down the crease when he notices the ball being sent in the opposite striker’s direction instead of non-stricker which was comparatively closer to the fielder. What made this run-out so special was the call that was made, during the second run. And it was led by Dhoni who helped in converting it into a dismissal.

MS Dhoni from the time he had joined the International cricket has been different from other players when he was just a player and a different captain all together. Run-outs in T20 by Dhoni, in International career, is eight and in IPL is 21. Making it a total of 29 in his T20 career of 13years from 2006-19. He played his last T20 international match on 27th February 2019 against Australia.

Run-outs in ODIs by Dhoni is 22. And in test matches, it is three. MS Dhoni played ODIs for 15long years from 2004-19. But he is also known for his stump-outs as well, which are the most for any wicketkeeper. He has 123 stump outs in ODIs which have come in the most crucial moments of the match. And also holds the maximum number of Stump outs in IPL career as well.

He also holds the fastest stumping record of the fastest response for a stump-out. His response time was of 0.08 seconds during a match against West Indies and made the batsman in 2018. Bettering off is own stumping record of 2016 against New Zealand.
