Turning Professional & first five years
Sania Mirza started her professional career with an AP Tourism Hyderabad Open in her hometown itself, in 2003. But lost to Evie, in straight three sets. Further, she played Qatar Ladies Cup, but had a tough-luck, and lost in the first round for qualifying itself. She then had a start to winning matches in the Fed Cup, and then also won the 2003 Wimbledon’s Doubles Title with Alisa Kleybanova.

But got defeated by the World Champion herself Serena Williams in the third, and was out of the tournament. In the same year, she participated in Dubai, where she defeated Kuznetsova to reach the highest quarter-final of her career.
In 2006, Sania Mirza was seeded to the US Open being the first Indian Women to be seeded for the US Open. And also got a chance to play the French Open for the first time. But her game kept on improving with every tournament she played and started reaching new heights. She started her following year 2007 with a high note, by making it to the semifinals of Hobart, quarter-finals in Banglore, the second round of the Australian Open, and semi-finals in Pattaya.
