MS Dhoni, the former captain of our Indian cricket team, has announced his retirement from international cricket. As a result, he brings an end to a near 16-year-long golden aged career of one of the country’s greatest cricketers. Dhoni is said to be India’s most successful captain in limited-overs internationals. Moreover, he is the only captain to successfully make the path to three ICC trophies. When Dhoni retired?

This announcement ‘MS Dhoni Retires From International Cricket’ was made on 15th August 2020. It is to be noticed that he took the special day of Indian Independence Day (15th August) to make this announcement. He announced this before the IPL ( Indian Premier League) 2020. However, he will be a part of the Chennai Super Kings(CSK). He will not play International matches but we will all be enjoying the show of the legend on the fields in the IPL.

MS Dhoni announced his retirement at the age of 39 years. As a result, this brings an end to a near 16-year-long golden aged career of one of the country’s greatest cricketers. In this 16 years long career, he has left us with many memorable moments. Moreover, he had served as the captain for the Indian cricket team in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2016 and in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014. Dhoni had begun this international cricket career in December 2004. He made his debut in ODI in December 2004 against Bangladesh.

Dhoni made a confirmation through an IGTV video( A video on Instagram). It was captioned as: “Thanks – Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”

  4. 2011: Indian Territorial Army conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After Kapil Dev, Dhoni is the only Indian cricketer to get this honor.

International records in his game

  1. Represented our nation in 350 ODIs, 90 Tests and 98 T20 Internationals
  2. Dhoni served as a captain for 332 international matches. And this is by far the greatest number.
  3. Dhoni is indeed the most successful wicketkeeper. This is because he holds his record of 195 stumpings and 634 catches in international matches. 
  4. He has a record of 10,773 runs in ODI. As a result, he is among the most successful cricketers of this format.
  5. Dhoni also holds the record of most International Matches as a captain. Moreover, the number is 332 which is a huge figure.
